Boarding at GCU

Home away from home

A boarding education at GCU provides many benefits to students and parents. Parents don’t have to bother about the hassles of commuting. At the same time, students can deploy the time they would have spent commuting exploring other interests outside academics.

The routine and structure of the boarding house are useful in helping students become self-disciplined and responsible. In addition, a boarding school provides greater access to teachers and tutorial support, which is invaluable for students who may need additional assistance.

Boarding provides an opportunity to nurture friendships in a way that a day school does not. The diversity and strength of friendships formed by living together in a community for six years is an important benefit of boarding.

Our old boys have built life-long friendships with each other, friendships that have spanned several decades and different life changes.

Students are grouped into boarding houses and each boarding house is supervised by experienced live-in house masters who are responsible for the pastoral care of the students in their care. The dormitories are equipped to ensure our boys are comfortable.

The school will arrange airport transfers for out-of-town students to the Owerri and Port Harcourt airports on designated days at the beginning and end of each term.

We are committed to maintaining a pleasant and positive atmosphere on our school grounds. GCU’s safety policy and guidelines will be strictly enforced to ensure that all our boys are safe and free from bullying or oppression. Upon admission, new entrants will receive a primer on life in GCU and the relevant school policies.

GCU’s modern boarding facilities provide our boys with a comfortable home away from home.
