Academic Curriculum

Preserving the GCU tradition of academic excellence

Education at GCU is focused on providing each boy with the resources and support he needs to thrive.

GCU offers a robust and expansive international secondary education. Starting from Rev. Fisher, our pioneer principal, GCU has had a legacy of dedicated principals and teachers committed to teaching and mentoring the boys under their care.

The Curriculum

The GCU curriculum is a blend of the Nigerian and British curricula. Classes are small enough to ensure that teachers can provide the required level of guidance and support for each boy in their class. Boys who require additional assistance with any subject will be supported till they reach the required skill level.

We will provide career counselling as the boys prepare to transition to senior classes. Boys in senior secondary 1 and 2 classes who meet the set qualifying criteria (grades and character) will also have the option to undertake summer internships with old boys.

Academic Support

In the sixth year, students take the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

The school will offer tutoring for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) for students who require them.

Academic Facilities

GCU is committed to providing adequate school facilities that are responsive to its educational delivery, with a physical environment that is comfortable, safe, secure, functional, accessible, well-illuminated, and ventilated.

With the school facility being an integral component of students’ learning experience, our classrooms are suitable for high-quality teaching. The other segments of the facilities, namely, athletic fields and playgrounds, are functional areas for outdoor learning.
